Kenya is a country of unlimited possibilities! Republic located in East Africa, the 7th most populous country in African continent. One of the fastest growing economies in Africa. Kenya’s GDP per capita is projected to rise continuously between 2023 and 2028 year by a total of 424.2 US dollars (+19.39 percent).After fifth consecutive year of GDP per capita growth the population is expected to reach US$2,611.89 and will therefore reach a new peak in 2028. Kenya’s share of world GDP, adjusted for purchasing power parity, is projected to be continuously accounted for from 2023 to 2028 by a total of 0.03 percentage points. By tension, in 2028 this share will be 0.22 percent. In 2018, Kenya’s average inflation rate was about 4.69 percent compared to the previous year, which is significantly lower than 7.99 percent a year earlier. Kenya’s inflation forecast to level off around five percent in the near future.
Kenya’s economic growth has been fairly robust over the past few years and is still at rise. Kenya’s market economy is considered the financial and transport center of East Africa. Most Kenya’s GDP is generated from services, especially travel and tourism activities, but agriculture is also quite successful, accounting for about a third of GDP. The country exports less than imports, and its main exports are mainly commodities such as tea and coffee. Imports include oil, equipment and metals.

Why Kenya?

Kenya’s market economy is considered the financial and transport hub of East Africa.

In 2024, Africa’s overall growth is projected to be 4.0%, up significantly from 3.3% in 2023, making it the second-largest economy in the world, behind Asia (4.8%).
Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda are identified as key drivers that together will contribute significantly to the region’s economic revival.

Tourism is an important area of cooperation among BRICS countries. Cooperation in tourism increases people to people exchanges amongst the BRICS countries which leads to friendship, fraternity and enhances better understanding of each other’s culture and heritage.

In the 2012 BRICS Delhi Declaration and Action plan identified Tourism as strategic sector for expansion of communication, exchange programmes and people-to-people contacts among BRICS countries. The first Meeting of BRICS Ministers’ of Tourism of the countries was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 19th March, 2013.

Recognising the potential of Tourism to contribute towards sustainable and socio-economic development, the 2013 BRICS eThekwini Declaration and Action Plan mentioned Tourism as one of the new areas of cooperation to be explored by the BRICS countries. This was also reiterated in the Xiamen Declaration in 2017.

India, during its BRICS Chairship in 2016, organised the BRICS Tourism Convention in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, as an effective means to promote tourism cooperation among BRICS countries.

In November 2018, South Africa, the leaders welcomed the initiative to establish a BRICS Working Group on Tourism in Johannesburg Declaration to foster greater cooperation between the BRICS countries and increase economic development and people-to-people relations.

In March 2020, Russia, BRICS countries discussed the creation of a Working Group for interaction on tourism issues between BRICS countries. During the meeting, the countries representatives exchanged views on the current situation of the tourism sector and ways to overcome the negative consequences posed by COVID-19 to the sector.

In the recent BRICS Tourism Ministers’ meeting hosted virtually by Russia in October 2020, India’s delegation highlighted on how digitalisation and innovation will facilitate the development of tourism and hospitality sector.
